How to Insulate a Sunroom: 4 Key Steps

screen porch remodeling contractor

Insulate the Walls and Roof

    • Apply weatherstripping around windows and doors to prevent drafts.
    • Install thermal curtains or blinds to reduce heat loss and block excessive heat.
    • Upgrade to double or triple pane windows if possible for better insulation.

    Insulate the Walls and Roof

    • Add insulation to walls using fiberglass batts, foam board, or blown-in insulation.
    • Install foam board or spray foam insulation in the roof between the rafters.
    • Use reflective insulation on the roof to reflect heat away from the sunroom.
  1. Insulate the Floor

    • Install underfloor insulation using fiberglass batts or rigid foam board if the sunroom is above a crawl space or basement.
    • Use insulating mats or carpets on the floor for an extra layer of insulation.
  2. Seal Gaps and Consider HVAC Options

    • Apply caulk and spray foam insulation to seal gaps and cracks around windows, doors, and other openings.
    • Extend your home’s HVAC system into the sunroom or use portable heaters and air conditioning units to maintain a comfortable temperature.
